New Narnia Movie?? Field notes on a World yet unopened
Okay, something most people don’t know about me unless you’ve known me a long time, is that I love C.S. Lewis and Tolkien books. But especially C.S. Lewis, and honestly it started with the Disney Movies produced by Andrew Adamson, I fell in love with the stories because of those movies, they made the books come alive, and later because of the radio dramas by Focus on the Family. (Highly recommended by the way)
So I’ve heard and seen the rumors online for years, that Netlfix would produce a Narnia movie, I’d heard it would be the Magician’s Nephew, or the Silver Chair. So I honestly figured it was another rumor when I saw a post this week saying Netflix was going to be producing a Narnia Movie. But then I started checking, and it looks like it’s true.
Here is the post I saw.
So my initial thought is “oh no, Netflix is going to mess this up” and I’ve got to say that is my biggest concern. And I know Netflix probably has a huge budget for this project, and I understand this is probably gonna be a very unpopular opinion. But the idea of Netflix, and the worldview they very strongly promote producing this film. I’m sure the acting will probably be great, the filming will likely be amazing, we’ll see on the special effects. (We all know how well the lions were in The Lion King) but how are they going to change the story?
After a little research the writer and director Greta Gerwig, is behind the Little Women movie back in 2019 and the Barbie Movie in 2023. And while I saw Little Women, and I loved the filming it was well done, and I haven’t seen the Barbie movie (just not my thing, at all). I’m worried to magic that only the Narnia books could create will be gone. And hopefully I’m wrong, hopefully Douglas Gresham will not let the story be a ruined, but I will say as a lover of the Land of Narnia, I’m not excited about this movie. And I’m well aware this is probably a very unpopular opinion.
But maybe this will introduce people to the books, or encourage them to read the books, I know the ones from 2005, did for me growing up. All who realized it was 20 years since that movie was released?
Edited to Update-
After I wrote the post above I was making dinner, picked up my phone and thanks to the algorithm (we all love and hate) I saw another post about this new Narnia movie, and while I can’t find the original post. The actor voicing the role of Aslan is reportedly Meryl Streep, an actress.
And as a Bible Believing Christian, who was heavily influenced by C. S. Lewis’ faith and writings, it really bothers me that Aslan is being voiced by a woman. And I guess I'm going to be that person and ask… If some people are so hell bent on that if God exists that God is a woman, when they think a woman is a “social construct”?
Why does Aslan have to be voiced by a woman, when they can’t define what a woman is??
How I want to fight back…
One of my goals this year is to fight the brain rot, and I guess the newest Narnia movie will be added to that list. And while I was already planning on studying C. S. Lewis more this year, since its been a while, and I have not read much of his work as an adult, I will be adding the Chronicles of Narnia to the list, and I will be sharing reading the books as an adult, and encouraging as many people as I can to read the books.
Also I might cancel my Netflix subscription. Haha. But I will defiantly be supporting studios producing films and series that are actually encouraging, and support morals, and are producing what people want. So I hope you will join me, in reading more C.S.Lewis books this year and watching more Angel Studios movies in 2026!
